The impact of climate change on the global flood phenomenon is becoming an increasingly urgent and complex issue. Removing trees reduces the soil’s ability to absorb water, so water flows more quickly into rivers and drainage canals. In many countries, this is accompanied by a lack of regulation in water resource management, thereby affecting overall flood control. To overcome the impact of climate change on the flood phenomenon, many countries need to implement nature-based solutions. This includes restoration of ecosystems, such as mangroves and forests, to strengthen beaches and absorb rainwater. Green infrastructure, such as absorbent walls and rain gardens, can also reduce surface water runoff and lower the chance of flooding. Changes in people’s lifestyles, such as reducing carbon emissions, are also important. Education and awareness programs regarding the impacts of climate change can strengthen communities in facing this threat. International collaboration in research and development of flood mitigation technology is urgently needed to create a system that is more resilient to flooding due to climate change. Investment in environmentally friendly technologies, such as more accurate weather forecasting systems and early warning mechanisms, is an important step. By relying on big data analysis to predict potential floods, communities can be more alert in responding and adapting to events. Overall, although the impacts of climate change on global flooding are enormous and complex, there are many approaches to reducing risks and increasing resilience. Driving collaboration between government, the private sector and society is the key to creating a safer future against this phenomenon.
